Rasta Taco founder Mario Melendez has been nominated for the Orange County Business Journal’s 2012 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award. This award honors Orange County individuals who exemplify the American spirit of creativity, ingenuity and entrepreneurship.

The 2012 Excellence in Entrepreneurship awards will be held on March 5, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine, California. Tickets are available on the Orange County Business Journal website.

“Rasta Taco is a huge part of the Orange County community, so it’s great to be recognized for having such a positive relationship,” Melendez said.

During a trip to Jamaica, Orange County native Mario Melendez found himself longing for traditional Mexican food. Inspired by this craving for tacos and delicious Jamaican roadside chicken stands, Melendez came back to Orange County and founded Rasta Taco in 2006, in Dana Point, CA.

Rasta Taco is the original, on-site gourmet mobile taco catering company that features mouth-watering gourmet tacos that fuse the best of Mexican with a Jamaican vibe with the laid-back aesthetic of the reggae lifestyle and the thrill of Southern California athletics.

Partnered with Justin Prietto of Huntington Catering Company and Huntington Daily Catering, Rasta Taco is a pioneer in connecting with the community through social media. Their online presence includes Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other sites to uniquely profile the catering industry.

Rasta Taco’s unique vibe and delicious food have built a loyal following in Southern California, particularly among private residences, schools and Universities, Fortune 500 companies, and surfing and skating stars. Partnerships with brands like Warner Bros., Disney, Hurley, Quiksilver, as well as work with community organizations like the Surfrider Foundation, John Wayne Cancer Foundation, Red Cross, and JDRF are what distinguish Rasta Taco as a Southern California gourmet taco institution.
