Our January Taco King Is Here!

Community is everything these days and we are forever indebted to the people that lead our local communities to greatness. So this month Rasta Taco would like to name Shawn Wehan as the first Taco King of 2016!

Born and raised in Dana Point, Shawn Wehan has always had a sense of pride in his community. Volunteering with non-profit’s since he was in college, Shawn is now trying to make a difference in more ways than one with 2 different amazing organizations that he’s founded, FLOC and Givsum.

After becoming a community organizer in Fullerton, California Shawn saw a need to bridge the gap between young professionals and local non-profit organizations, and in 2009 FLOC (Future Leaders of Our Community) was born. FLOC has worked with over 250 different non-profit organizations to date, bringing awareness to its members and encouraging them to get involved. This past month, FLOC organized a Santa Pub Crawl in Newport Beach and over 1,000 santas showed up! Not only that, they ended up raising $13,000 for local charity Project Access!

Shawn’s desire to put young professionals in touch with non-profit organizations took a new turn in 2013 and he founded Givsum (short for Giving Summary). An online philanthropic platform created to help charities advertise their needs to young professionals and allow users to track and promote their philanthropic interests. Shawn says, “It’s a great tool for knowing how much you’ve given to the community each year and a single location to give donations, purchase tickets and find upcoming volunteer opportunities.”

With both these amazing organizations under his belt, Shawn hopes to become the voice of philanthropic engagement in our country and by the looks of it, he is well on his way there!

Shawn is a natural born leader with a heart of gold. He says, “I love the feeling of giving back and working toward making a difference for others. It’s addicting and the more you do it, the more you want to keep doing it. It’s the best high ever!”

Here at Rasta Taco we believe it’s important to celebrate trailblazing and inspiring individuals in our local communities, so we will be naming a new Taco King each month.
